The 2003 NMU ACM Practice Contest was held from 12:00 to 5:00 P.M. EST on Sunday 2 November 2003 at Northern Michigan University. The contest was attended by 7 teams. The original purpose of the contest is to determine which two teams from NMU will attend the North Central North America ACM Regional Programming Contest this year as well as to provide our teams with practice. However, since a rule change allows for an unlimited number of competing teams, this contest served as practice only.
The teams were as follows:
Competing:
ALASTAIR AND JOHN--Alastair Drong, John Kempen
BYTE SMITH--Adrian Bush, Roland Scott
FOO!--Jacob Langley, Shawn O'Neil, Nathan Rabe
I AM JACK'S COLON--Steve Hogle, Warren Powers, Derek Rajala
JAELLYN'S FAN CLUB--Serena Newby, Maija Niemi, Patrisha Wells
LINUX INSIDE--Mike Helle, Steve Newby, John Wilson
NM F'N U--R.C. Johnson, Nicola Makela, Elizabeth Sprehe
The contest consisted of 6 problems to be solved over a 5 hour period.
Below is the list of problems, test input files, correct output files, and sample solutions. There were many ways to solve the problems, of course. These solutions were developed using the C compiler of DJGPP (the Gnu C Compiler for Windows).
