Latitude and Longitude:

Latitude is measured in north and south and it is the angle between your point and the equator.  Latitude varies between 90 N and 90 S.  90 N is the North Pole, and the longitude is irrelevant there.  90 S is the South Pole.

Longitude is measured in east and west and it is the angle between your point and the prime meridian.  Longitude varies between 180 E and 180 W.
180 E and 180 W represent the exact line of longitude, and this (for the most part) the International Date Line.

Degrees are divided into 60 minutes.  Minutes are divided into 60 seconds.

Marquette Michigan is about 4? d 33 min North.  And 87 d 24 min West.
